St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Council Meeting 12-4-2008

Those present were Mike Fara, Sara Bornhoft, John Villegas, Cy Monson, Jason Monson, Edwin Benson, Dale Feser and Pastor Ron Rasmussen.

Mike called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m.

Secretaries Report: Jason read the November minutes.  There was a correction in that the proceeds from the soup supper would go towards the ski trip to Minnesota and the child from Tanzania, not the adopt-a-family project.

It was motioned by John and 2nd by Cy to approve the minutes.

Treasurer’s Report: Dale read the treasurer’s report for November. The budget looked bad because of the parsonage furnace bill, which is an unordinary expense and may be taken out of the trust fund.  Edwin motioned to approve the report and Sara 2nd .

Pastor’s Report:

There haven’t been any firm commitments to the ski trip to Minnesota.  We do have chaperones lined up.

The soup supper went well.  We had enough food.  They took in $957 with $204.76 in expenses for a net of $752.24.  There was a request for oyster soup so we may want to offer that next year.  We also need more participation from the Luther Leaguers and their parents.

John brought up a concern about the ski trip being co-ed and how it would be handled.  The pastor reassured us that he had arranged separate lodging and had plenty of chaperones to help.

The Pastor will take vacation on December 25th through the 27th and February 5th through the 10th.  We will need to find a pastor for the Sunday of February 8th.  The Pastor said that he would line one up.  He mentioned trying Heather Ploen, or Vic Johnson.

Announcements:

The Mid-week advent services are going well

Christmas Eve services will be held in Irwin at 7:00 p.m. and in Bethlehem at 5:00 and 10:30 p.m. including communion.

Lenten services will begin on Ash Wednesday February 25th.  The Pastor will ask Toni from Immanuel if they would like to have joint services.

Old Business:

The commercials on KNOD continue to go well.  They are being paid for by individuals so far.  The bills will be sent to the treasurer and people can get in touch with him if they want to help with the cost.

Christmas music on December 23rd will be sponsored by our churches and paid for by the Pastor.

We will ask if we want to continue doing the radio ads on KNOD at the annual meeting.

Church hours will rotate after the first of the year.  Bethlehem will have their service at 9:00 a.m. and St. Paul’s will have ours at 11:00 a.m. until summer when it will switch to 10:30 a.m.

The annual meeting will be held on January 11th.

The Christmas program will be held on December 14th.

Adult bible study will begin in January and continue until lent.  Rock and the Rabbi, a study of Peter, will be the topic of study.  We will discuss the time of day to do this at the annual meeting.

The church directory still needs to be looked into.

Steve Strong from Omaha looked at our sound system and determined that the Pastors lapel microphone was bad.  Jason moved that we buy a new lapel microphone.  John seconded.  Motion carried.
